I'm going to be honest here and say that Thanksgiving is not one of my favorite holidays. It's probably my least favorite. I know that some of you are in complete shock right now because Thanksgiving tops some people's favorite holidays list and what's not to love about a holiday that lets you get together and eat copious amounts of food? Well, when your husband is gone and your family is half-way across the country from you it's not very much fun. This isn't the first time that I've been in this situation before. It's hard to get excited about spending the day cooking food that your kids will refuse to eat, and then sitting around the table listening to your children tell you how much they don't want to eat your food. Oh, wait! That's every day, so Thanksgiving isn't really very different.
This year our wonderful neighbors took pity graciously invited us to eat Thanksgiving dinner at their house. The kids were thrilled to get to play and eat dinner with their friends. I was actually very impressed at how well they ate while we were over there. They didn't even complain about the food (maybe it is my cooking after all)! It was nice to be able to spend the holiday with friends this year.
Mr. R made a turkey in his Christian Formation class at church the week before Thanksgiving. Every day he was to write down things that he was thankful for and "stuff" his turkey with it. When I opened up the turkey on Thanksgiving this is what I found:
He said he was thankful for his mom and dad, Bob (his beluga whale), TV, Skylanders Giants (gee, what a shocker), and all four of our cats (Bingle, Smudge, Ugli, and Tater). I'm not really surprised to find his sisters' names missing. Maybe if he had more time he would have added them. I'm just thankful that I made the list this year.
